Aloo Mattar

aloo mattar curryIngredients:

  • 3 medium potatoes
  • 1 – 1/2 cups green peas
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 large onion, sliced thin
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 tbsp coriander seeds
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 3 dry red chilies
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 3 large tomatoes, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup full cream yogurt
  • Salt to taste


  1. Boil, peeled and cut potatoes small-medium cubes and keep aside
  2. Boil the green peas and keep aside
  3. Grind garlic, ginger, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and red chilies into fine paste
  4. Heat the ghee in a sauce pan
  5. Saute the sliced onions till they come light brown in color
  6. Add the spice paste, turmeric powder and salt and saute for 3-4 minutes
  7. Add the tomatoes, yogurt, gently mix well, bring to boil and then on medium heat, let it simmer for 3-4 minutes
  8. Add boiled and cut potatoes, boiled peas, stir well and let it simmer for 4-5 minutes on low / medium heat
  9. Serve hot with an Indian bread (paratha or naan) or rice
