Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup toovar dal
- 1/2 cup yellow moong dal
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- salt to taste
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
For the green paste
- 2 cups chopped corriander leaves
- 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
- 12 mm (1/2 inch) piece of ginger
- 2 green chillies
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Method:
- Clean and wash the dals in water
- Add salt, turmeric powder and 3 cups water to the dals and pressure cook till they are done (3 whistles)
- Once cooled, whisk well to mash the dals and keep aside
- Combine all the green paste ingredients and grind to a coarse paste, adding a little water as required
- Heat oil in a large pan and saute the onions till they become translucent
- Add the green paste to the oil and onions and saute for 2-3 minutes
- Add the cooked dal and 1/2 cup water and bring to boil
- Serve hot with rice
